Return to Ethics

  • This term we will try to work on the skills of giving an applied ethical analysis alongside our more theoretical work. To do this, we will develop resources (news, commentary, our own perspectives and argumentation) using a few minutes of most classes.

  • The public discourse about the government shutdown involves moral language. Note two distinct approaches: Apportioning blame vs. assessing conditions of trust. Note connection to Ariely. Example of dysfunctional work groups.
  • Freedom of conscience cases: Recent supreme court case. See Reading list. This will be on our agenda for the 24th.
