Hania Burrows' Information Diet

International and local news

  • New York Times - I like reading the New York Times because it always has a variety of news available, both national and international.
  • Google News - Google News is a good source of news as well, like the NYT it gives you top stories and then a variety of categories to choose from.
  • The Oregonian - The Oregonian is great when I want to know what is going on locally in Portland.

Music and Entertainment

  • Pandora - Useful when looking for new music and artists for a particular genre.
  • IMDB - I use this all the time when looking up new movies.
  • StumbleUpon - This website is very entertaining, it takes your interests and directs you to random websites with photos, information, and videos that relate to them.
  • FoodPornDaily - Don't get the wrong idea about this website because of the name. If you're hungry and looking for some amazing food this website is great, it provides a picture and recipe.
  • Hulu - This website allows you to watch a lot of different TV shows after they have already aired.

Social Networking

  • Facebook - Helps me stay in touch with family and friends. Also a great way to share information.
  • Twitter - This is similar to Facebook, but different in the sense that you can "fallow" celebrities, politicians, actors, and just about anyone else.

Sources I have heard about

  • Perez Hilton - My roommate always goes on this website to keep up with celebrity news.

Sources to balance my opinion

  • The Onion - I think satire would help balance out my information intake.

Sources to add depth to my perspective

  • BBC News -I think this is a generally less biased news source so it would give me a better perspective on news in comparison to the sites I go to now.
  • NPR - Along with BBC I think NPR is another great news source that would add depth to the news I currently read about.
