Modern Hinduism developed from an older religion called Rigveda (1700-1100 B.C.E.).

Buddha was born in 5 century B.C.E. He had his enlightenment at the age of 35, and began teaching others how to do this until his death at age 80 (in 483 B.C.E.).

  • Samkhya (roughly 3 century C.E. as beginning point);
  • Yoga ( the oldest material dated back to 400 B.C.E.);
  • Nyaya (earliest writings around the 2 century C.E.);
  • Vaisheshika (2 century B.C.E. and one of it's major texts is form the 4 century C.E.);
  • Purva-Mimamsa (a lot of the texts were from 3 to 1 century B.C.E.); and
  • Vedanta (around 200 B.C.E.)--Jjohnson9 19:01, 2 October 2010 (UTC)
