Other Docs/Links

  • This is a cool new short video from the Sagan Series. It quickly presents some interesting ideas (to the soundtrack of the fountain so it's a winner just for that!) [9]
--Just check out The Sagan Series in general (on facebook or youtube)... it's super cool. [10]
  • Philosophy Now [11]
  • Philosopher's Magazine [12]
  • Check out Philosophy magazine, full text through Foley. You can have them send you an email when a new issue comes out. This link might work [13] or go through Foley, periodicals link, "philosophy" then click link to full text holding.

The New York Times has a regular column, "The Stone," on philosophical topics [14] We'll follow the exchange on naturalism, which begins with this article [15].

Check out "Philosophy Talk" a long running podcast on different topics in philosophy today.

Order "Origin of Geometry" Husserl. [16]

Books to consider: Logicomix, All things Shining, The Really Hard Problem.

The Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, a must use resource the name says it all.[17]

Fora TV, a great resource for debates and scientific talks, similar to Ted talks.[18]

Relativism, ethnocentric issues highlighted in bizarre African documentary on Austrian customs. [19]

  • Video for the Trolley Problem [20]
  • First episode of Michael Sandel's video series "Justice." Reminds me of an Ethics class with a political and real world emphasis. [21]
  • Randy Mayes has collected some ehhhokay short philosophy video to go along with his intro class. I recommend sampling some of these for topics and position papers. [22]
  • Anyone interested in classical philosophers and want their original texts would be interested in this site [23] I've used it to look up The Meno, but I'm assuming more stuff is on here.
  • 3 minute philosophy!!! [24]
  • Free Yale Philosophy class called "Death" [25]
  • Squashed Philosophy [26] -- a summary of many different works. Great if you need to get an idea of what's what.
  • Interactive Greek Philosophy Timeline [27] Creeder 02:46, 6 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Monty Python's World Philosophy Cup [28]
  • Now this is a satire, but relevant to our readings by Singer. Jonathan Swift's A Modest Proposal [29] (Ethan)
  • Teaching ethics to inmates, you may be surprised what you read. [30]
  • TED Philosophy Videos [31]
  • Colin McGinn explains atheism - The Atheism Tapes [32]

[33]Husserl's Origin of Geometry (EL)

[34] this is a fun way of looking at life. It is Joe Rogan (Fear Factor/ MMA announcer) and his philosophy, derived from taking dmt. despite the questionable technique, the philosophy is pretty good. (EL)

[35] just another thing to consider, string theory (EL)

[36] this is Waking Life, one of the movies that inspired my in philosophy, if you have spare time on a lazy Saturday, enjoy. i particularly like the scene with Ethan Hawke. (EL)

[37] so this is less philosophical but it drives me to question: are we living the best way possible, or do we, as Rage Against the Machine says, "Wake up!" to the injustice? Holla back. (EL)
